Is Battlefield 2143 DICE's next game?

Battlefield 2143 may be the next game to be released in DICE's blockbuster first-person shooter franchise, if an Easter Egg found in the latest DLC map pack is any indication.

Players have spotted the number '2143' on Wake Island, one of the maps released as part of the latest back to karkand expansion pack.

Admittedly, the hunch isn't very substantial, but DICE has a history of placing hints as to future projects in its games.

Back in 2006, hints at a new title called '2142' appeared in the Euro Forces and Armoured Fury map packs for Battlefield 2, long before Battlefield 2142 was officially announced, so there is some precedent.

Four of the most loved Battlefield 2™ maps Back to Karkand features four legendary Battlefield 2™ maps, all fully re-imagined utilizing the power of the Frostbite™ 2 engine. If you’re new to Battlefield, this is your chance to experience some of the most popular maps in the Battlefield history, and see for yourself why GameInformer lists “Strike at Karkand” and “Wake Island” in their top 10 best FPS multiplayer maps of all times. And if you’re already familiar with these maps, you’ll be surprised to see how your old strategies and camping spots are not very secure anymore due to the enhanced destruction that Frostbite™ 2 brings.
Battleblog #2: With A Bit Of Class

Welcome to the second installment of the Battleblog, a blog series taking you all the way to the launch of Battlefield 3 on October 25th! In this blog series, you’ll learn more about every aspect of our biggest shooter ever. This time out is a look at the classes found in multiplayer with Senior Mulitplayer Designer Alan Kertz.

Here at DICE, we’re very proud of the team play functionality that we have become known and loved for in the Battlefield series, and we’re continuing to embrace that approach for Battlefield 3, but not without a few upgrades for the new game. In Battlefield 3, we’re making sure each of the four playable classes (Assault, Engineer, Support and Recon) are each completely capable of holding their own in combat. While they each have different specialties, each class is a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield.

If you’re that kind of lone wolf player who simply wants to jump in and cook some fools, that’s perfectly fine – we’re making sure each class in Battlefield 3 packs a mean punch on their own, giving you another chance to play it your way. However, we’re also hard at work fine-tuning each class and their unique team play capabilities, so squads in Battlefield 3 will be able to function tightly, giving even more reasons to team play than ever before.

No Dolphin Diving In BF3

The popular fighting movement from BF2 will not be making it's way into Battlefield 3 according to EA's community manager, Daniel Matros. Don't know what dolphin diving is?

Battlefield Wiki wrote: Dolphin diving is a tactic formerly used in Battlefield 2, which involved the player going prone while still in midair due to a jump. This was repeated over and over again so that the player could keep moving at a reasonable speed while still only showing their head to their opponent as they would when going prone normally. As a result of pressure from the community, the version 1.21 patch removed the ability to dolphin dive from the game.

It'll be interesting to see how players adapt to the Battlefield 3 environment. Maybe bunny-hopping will fix the need for players to avoid the enemy's suppression fire.
